Atlantic coast trekking
Following the historic Portuguese Camel Path, this trek along the Atlantic coast explores unending beaches and private coves. At times, it takes hikers high above the water, along cliff faces, through Argan woods, and into untamed environments.
Walking between 4 and 5 hours a day gives you plenty of time to explore the dunes, take a sea bath, or just enjoy the peace and quiet of the waves. Our night camps will be either on the beach or close by. The sunsets across the ocean and mesmerizing night skies are amazing. This section of coastline sits in the path of the vents alizés, or trade winds—strong north-easterlies that blow steadily through spring and summer. This means that although the route can be trekked throughout the year, it offers nearly perfect conditions from April to August. Supported by our camel crew, you only need to carry a day bag with personal necessities.

Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech
Upon arrival, you will be greeted at the airport and taken to your hotel or riad. Following your guide's briefing, you should visit the well-known Djemaa El Fna square. The square is an explosion of senses, with performers entertaining, a plethora of food stalls lit up with aromas to go along with them, and a general flurry of activity.
Day 2: Drive from Marrakech to Imriditsn and trek to Amderdiz'in
After breakfast, we depart Marrakech and head towards Chicahaoua before turning towards the coast. We will enjoy a lunch stop en route. In the afternoon, we arrive at the village of Lmessouane before driving to Imriditsn and the beginning of the Atlantic Coast Trek. It takes about two hours to get to the fishing village of Amderdiz'in and our first night's camp, which is situated high on the cliffs with views of the ocean. Before dinner, take a cool stroll down to the beach below. Total travel time is three hours, Trek 6 km, 2 hours (B,L,D).
Day 3: Cliff trails above hidden bays to Tafeda fishing village
After breakfast, we continue at a leisurely pace, high above the coast line with views of hidden bays and crashing waves. We arrive at Tafeda, a small fishing village with a beach that seems to stretch for miles. Tafeda was once a significant Portuguese sea port, but it is now just a small fishing village. We set up camp just outside the village, giving us more time before dinner to enjoy a stroll along the beach or a dip in the sea. The journey takes approximately 18 km and takes 5 hours (B,L,D).
Day 4: Walk deserted beaches to Sidi Ahmed Essayeh
Today's Atlantic Coast Trek leads us through an untamed area of argan forest, where goats graze on the scrubby plants. Eventually, we descend and walk beside the waves, along deserted beaches to our camp at Sidi Ahmed Assayh. En route, we will stop for a picnic lunch, and then we will meet the camels again at our night camp by the sea, where you can spend the evening stargazing beneath the starry sky above the water. Trek 17km – 6 hours (B,L,D)
Day 5: Coastal paths to Bizergane Bay:
We hike an amazing trail above the Atlantic today, passing through a few Berber villages. We arrive at Bizergane in the afternoon, where the soaring dunes are split by the River Boud, a small river (assif) that leads to the sea, where you can frequently see little colorful fishing boats drawn onto the sand. There are waterfalls at Sidi M'barek nearby, where you can take a freshwater shower if the weather permits. We camp here tonight. Trek 10 km – 4/5 hours (B,L,D)
Day 6: Sidi Kaouki beach and transfer to Essaouira
This is the last day of our Atlantic Coast Trek. We start the day with a breathtaking walk along a stretch of deserted beach with views of the vast ocean until we arrive at the popular wind-surfing destination of Sidi Kaouki. We say goodbye to the camel drivers and the camels here and then hop on a minibus to drive the 40 minutes to Essaouira. Trek 11km – 4/5 hours (B,L,D)
Day 7: Essaouira
Enjoy a free day to explore this picture-perfect town and the walled "old town" medina and souks of Marrakech on a more manageable scale. Take a stroll through the fortified medina's spice-scented lanes and palm-lined avenues, peruse the many art galleries and boutiques, and watch the port's incredibly atmospheric traditional boats being built and fishing nets being mended. (B&B)
Day 8: Essaouira to Marrakech
After breakfast, we make the three-hour trip back to Marrakech, where you may spend the rest of the day exploring the souks, taking in the famed Djemaa El Fna, or just lounging around before heading back home (B&B).
Note B: Breakfast L: Lunch; D: Dinner
